At MyPocketSkill, we’re thrilled to feature one of our most dedicated and inspiring music coaches, Annabelle, who’s been with us since she was 15 years old. In the three years since she started teaching, Annabelle has already completed over 350 bookings, helping young musicians hone their skills in violin, flute, and music theory. We caught up with her to hear about her journey on the platform, her personal growth, and the lessons she’s learned along the way helping students of all ages learn to play music.
Annabelle is currently studying for her BA in Music at university and has been passionate about music her whole life. She’s been playing the violin for 12 years, completing ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction, and is currently working towards her ARSM Diploma. She’s also self taught her way to Grade 8 and passed her Grade 5 Theory exam with distinction. Pretty impressive stuff, hey?
”I was home-schooled throughout my school years, which gave me the opportunity to dive deeply into my musical studies. I have worked with the National Youth Orchestra and lead the Essex Youth Orchestra as well as leading my local orchestra. I have worked with multiple amateur adult orchestras in Essex as well as performing as a guest soloist at multiple events.”
Annabelle’s approach as a student music coach has inspired numerous young musicians who have booked her through the MyPocketSkill platform. Through her online lessons, she teaches violin, flute, and music theory, offering personalized guidance to students looking to excel in their musical journey.
One of the things that makes Annabelle stand out is her dedication to her students' success. Here’s what some of their students have to say:
Dedication
“Annabelle has been an exceptional violin tutor for my daughter. With her guidance and expertise, my daughter successfully cleared both the Grade 1 and Grade 2 exams in just one year. Annabelle's teaching skills and dedication have been instrumental in our daughter's progress, and we are immensely grateful for her support. We highly recommend her as a violin tutor to anyone seeking professional and effective music instruction." Veeru - parent
Patience
“Annabelle is amazing. She is patient and very kind with my daughter. She goes at my daughters pace and is clear with instruction. We are very pleased to have found Annabelle." Sam C - parent
Preparation
“Excellent lesson - the amount of preparation Annabelle does ahead and the time she takes during the lesson is beyond exceptional." Gerald G - parent
Annabelle joined MyPocketSkill as a music teacher at 15, and it didn’t take long for her to discover her passion for teaching. Over time, she realised that she could save up some serious money by teaching music as a side hustle and began offering online lessons to students all across the UK via Zoom.
“I’ve discovered I suit it very well and enjoy so many aspects of it. Because of this, I now want to go on to be a peripatetic violin teacher after graduation.”
Working with a number of different families, Annabelle also discovered how to manage different situations. “You certainly get a lot of great real-world practice dealing with all sorts of situations and people… But the most inspiring experiences are always being contacted by a parent to tell me their child has passed a music grade!”
Just go for it!
If you’re a young person looking to earn money teaching music, Annabelle’s advice is simple: ‘Just go for it! Sign up to MyPocketSkill, put yourself out there, and take it seriously. It does take dedication and discipline—you can’t expect to make money without putting in the effort. As a student music coach, if you show you care about your students and take that extra step to make both the students and their parents feel seen and valued, your success will follow.”
Have a budget!
“Also, one piece of advice I can’t stress enough: Have. A. Budget. It might sound obvious, but it’s so important. Without a budget, it’s hard to track where your money is going and limit your spending. Trust me, it will make your financial life so much easier in the long run. Saving money is definitely harder than I thought, but over time, I was inspired by other MyPocketSkill testimonials and their budgeting tips. Thanks to the platform, I’ve earned and saved over £4,000, which will go toward a future house deposit. That’s been a huge accomplishment for me!”
